In 1513 Machiavelli writes a secret book called the Prince. After his death in 1527 this secret book that he had wrote was discovered and published. The book describes the often crafty, cunning and unscrupulous methods by which a prince can acquire and maintain political power. His work on this matter immediately provoked controversy and was soon condemned by Pope Clement VIII. In 1810 a letter written by Machiavelli was discovered in which he reveals that he wrote The Prince in effort to endear himself to the ruling Mediei family in Florence, to liberate Italia from the influence of foreign governments.
