The Crusades were a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims, started primarily to secure the Holy Lands. In 1096 the pope called on the Western Christians to take up arms to aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Lands from Muslim control. Where this marked the beginning of the Crusades which lasted from 1096 – 1291. But unfortunately, they were never able to reclaim the Holy Lands, from the Muslims, which is still under their control to this day.
