7 mar 1884 año - Formation of the
Progressive Party
Descripción:
Not long after Lincoln's publishing of "New Common Sense" in May of 1882, the factional infighting in the Freedom Party grew to the point that Senator Robert Waterman, the leading figure of the progressive faction of the party, walked out of the 1884 State of the Union Address and more or less officially divorced from the party.
In the days that followed, Waterman would forge an alliance between several smaller socialist parties, notably the Socialist Party of California and the Labor Party. Under this new alliance, the Progressive Party came into existence.
