32 years ago on the 26th of April 1986 a catastrophic nuclear accident occurred. The accident happened at night when an explosion and fire in reactor 4 sent radioactivity into the atmosphere killing 31 people. Over 500,000 jobs were lost and costed Ukraine over 380 million AUD$. The area will not be liveable for over 20,000 years.
