1 jul 1968 año - Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is Signed

Descripción:

An agreement signed on July 1, 1968, by the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union, and 59 other states, where the United Kingdom, United States, and the Soviet Union, agreed not to assist other states in obtaining or producing nuclear weapons. The treaty became effective in March 1970 and was to remain effective 25 years. The treaty is unequal, as it obliges nonnuclear states to forgo development of nuclear weapons while allowing the established nuclear states to keep theirs. Nevertheless, it had been accepted because most nonnuclear states didn't have the capacity nor the inclination to follow the nuclear path, and they were well aware of the dangers of proliferation for their security.
