Update on @One’s DVD and production moving project: Harry Thomas
a. We are moving production behind the multimedia desk (back area). This will improve quality, restrict printing to students, and see fewer issues on machines going down. Support provided to computer users will not change. The self-service counter will still be there.
b. It was noted that the vast majority of labeling will take place over spring break. The goal is that all videos will be moved up to Popular Reading by the end of the semester. The rest of the videos will be housed in Mathewson Automated Retrieval System (MARS). People will still be able to walk up to the multimedia desk to place their order and pick them up there. Posters will be stored in the back out of the public’s way.
c. DVD reserves and viewing machines will be moving upstairs. The VHS viewing downstairs is not accessible. All VHS in the general area will be moved and stored in MARS. A member commented that there is a systematic attempt to replace VHS with updated versions where possible, and withdraw VHS if they’ve been updated. The boxes of VHS in Mars will be withdrawn. The VHS on reserve will stay. Faculty are encouraged to move away from VHS for accessibility reasons.
d. The space where printers are now will be power and networking space for the next big thing, potentially a laser cutter, though no decision has been made.
