June 13, 1944: V-1 rockets are launched and kill 5,600 civilians over the next 80 days
June 15, 1944: The battle of Saipan. This was important because runways would be able to be built long enough to allow for the take off of bombers (B-29s). Many Japanese civilians killed themselves by leaping from the cliffs after being brainwashed by the Japanese government.
June 19, 1944: Decisive victory for the U.S, resulting in the loss of 3 Japanese carriers and 600+ planes.
July 3, 1944: The battle of the Hedgerows occurs in Normandy, France. It is very difficult for American troops to advance through the thick hedges. Distinct defender advantage.
July 18, 1944: St. Lo is taken by U.S. troops. Located in Northwestern France near the sea.
July 20, 1944: The same attempt as from Valkyrie.
July 24, 1944: Marines invade Tinian island, it is the same island from which the atomic bombs are launched from.
August 4, 1944: Anne Frank and her family are arrested. They were arrested in Amsterdam. The Gestapo was the secret police.
August 25, 1944: Paris is liberated by the Allies. Troops could then be sent to Berlin
September 1-4, 1944: The Allies prepare for the D-Day landings at Normandy. 5,000 tons of bombs are dropped on German gun positions, dummy parachutists were dropped and radar jamming devices were dropped as well.
September 13, 1944: American troops reach the Siegfried Line, it is important because if they can get through the line, then they can get into Germany.
October 11, 1944: The U.S. begins to bomb Okinawa. The last island before they could send troops into Japan itself.
October 14, 1944: Rommel commits suicide after being told that he is suspected of being involved in the July 20 plot. (Valkyrie) Allies liberate Athens, Greece
October 30, 1944: Last use of the gas chambers at Auschwitz.
November 11, 1944: The U.S. begins to bomb Iwo Jima, considered to be extremely important because of its two airfields.
December 16-27, 1944: The Battle of the Bulge begins. The Ardennes forest. The last offensive by Germany.
December 26, 1944: The town of Bastogne is freed by Patton, was a very important tank commander for the U.S. Army
July 19, 1944: U.S. marines invade Guam.
July 24, 1944: Soviet troops liberate concentration camps Majdanek.
December 17, 1944: The Air Force begins preparing for the dropping of the atomic bomb.
