Spanish-American War (21 abr 1898 ano – 13 ago 1898 ano)
Descrição:
After the American warship 'USS Maine' was sunk in the harbor of Havana during the Cuban Revolt against the Spanish, it was officially blamed as the Spanish who had sunk it. This caused relations between the US and Spain to worsen, which were already deteriorating by a battle that was being fought close to American soil. The sinking of the Maine has never proven to be caused by a sea mine, but rather, after investigations by National Geographic and the Discovery Channel, it seems the explosion may have been caused by a faulty coal bunker within the vessel. The US later intervened in the conflict against the Spanish, and took over some of their territory, such as the Philippine Islands, as well as the liberation of Cuba.
