the Iran hostage crisis was when the ayatollah supported the taking of hostages from the U.S. embassy by revolutionaries. This is a critical juncture because it started a long period of conflict between America and Iran. It became a global event because the U.S. would now not support Iran, in any situation. For example, the American government decided to support Sadam Hussein when Iraq decided to invade Iran. To many, the support of the Iran Hostage crisis by the ayatollah was one of the most costly decisions in Iranian history.
