John Cabot was an explorer and merchant who helped explore the New World. John Cabot's first voyage in 1496 was a failure to sail west as poor weather plagued him. In May, 1497 Cabot went on his second voyage. In the second Voyage Cabot was more successful supposedly sailing around Southern Labrador, and Northern Newfoundland. He then sailed toward the Avalon Peninsula, and then back to England. The Third Voyage left in May, 1498, and was unsuccessful. Reports indicate that Cabot lost many if not all of his five ship flotilla. Cabot may have even died on this voyage, but historical documents on his death are non-existent. Despite this, John Cabot presented the premise that the English had claims all over northeastern North America.
