Dred Scott v Sanford (11 fev 1856 ano – 6 mar 1857 ano)
Descrição:
Dred Scott was a Virginia slave who tried to sue for his freedom in court. The legal action eventually rose to the level of the Supreme Court, where the justices found that, as a slave, Dred Scott was not a person but rather a piece of property that came with none of the legal rights or respect afforded to a human being. This case was another example of the lengthening divide between southern and northern America.
