Washington Naval Treaty (1 jan 1922 ano – 1 dez 1934 ano)

Descrição:

The Washington Naval Treaty, also known as the Five-Power Treaty, was a treaty signed during 1922 among the major nations that had won World War I, which agreed to prevent an arms race by limiting naval construction.

CAUSES
After WWI, the victorious allies decided they didn't want another war to break out, so they decided to put a treaty in place, they also put other measures in place such as the Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations.

Countries such as Germany had gotten overly powerful because of the vengeance they had towards the victorious allies and the power they demanded in the past, so this was put in place as they didn't want this to reoccur.

EFFECTS
Japan have always been known to be technologically advanced, so they weren't allowed to gain any extra power over America, England and France. This was one of the reasons the victories allies created the treaty, which ended up having quite an impact on the Japanese.

Japan were only allowed 315,000 tonnes of 'Naval Strength' which they refused while expanding their territory and conquering parts of Asia on the 19th or December 1934.
