The astrolabe was one of the most important invention of the Age of Exploration.
It could measure local time and latitude, measure the angles of stars.
It could locate the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and more components of astronomy.
The mariner's astrolabe measures the height of the sun or a star above the horizon. Used with star and planetary charts and tables, the observer can find their latitude.
