Andrew Jackson lead shift in American politics, a strong support of the common man and an appeal to smaller landowners and local farmers. The new Democratic party was built from grassroots and engaged many more members of the American population. In addition to this appeal more and more voters became engaged. The Jacksonians would continue to be a massively influential force on American poltics, continuing deep into the 1840s with the elction of James Polk, but would be pushed off the poltical stage by the Civil War.
