Birth
2-6 months old - significant wiring of the brain occurs due to experiences and relationships formed outside of the womb.
Pre-natal - the brain is developing in utero. Senses are being developed and prenatal sensory experiences shape the nervous system and brain.
6-9 months - by this time the brain has undergone a rapid growth spurt which helps them make connections via their senses.
3-5 years - the child's brain has more than 1000 trillion connections. Healthy brain development can be fostered by positive relationships and providing a safe environment.
2nd Trimester (4-16 weeks) - neuron branches form synapses. Forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain are developed.
1st Trimester (0-4 weeks) - neurons develop and multiply.
3rd Trimester (16 weeks -birth) - Pruning (apoptosis), synapses reorganize, and myelination occurs. Forebrain, midbrain, cerebellum, and medulla are formed.
0-1 years- the occipital lobe is being developed and is making connections via vision.
1-3 years- speech development happens because the brain is able to make connections and the left hemmisfere is being further developed.
3 years - peer social skills are being developed because of school.
Birth
3 years- speech development and communication is developing.
1-24 years - the frontal brain starts to develop and will be the last to mature at around 24 years old.
4 years - death - brain cells keep forming and replacing dead ones. When the brain dies cells will not replace themselves anymore.
