French and Indian War This war between Britain and France ended with the victorious British deeply in debt and demanding more revenue from the colonies. With the defeat of the French, the colonies became less dependent on Britain for protection.
Proclamation of 1763 This prohibited settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains. While Britain did not intend to harm the colonists, many colonists took offense at this order.
Sugar Act. Lowered the taxes on molasses from six pence to three per gallon. There was also a problem with the colonies and the Act said the Americans could freely export many of their products but only if they passed through the English ports first.

The war started as a dispute between the thirteen American colonies and the oppressive British Parliament for America's independence, but soon many major world powers joined each side, including France and Spain, who helped the colonies by providing men and weapons, as well as naval support.

The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in each U.S. state in the name of "The People". The Constitution is the supreme law of the United States of America. The Constitution is the framework for the organization of the United States government and for the relationship of the federal government with the states, citizens, and all people within the United States.
