950 AD - Approximate date of first wooden structure at Blarney site
1210 AD - First stone structure built at Blarney site
1314 AD - Battle of Bannockburn; MacCarthys supplied 5,000 infatry to help Robert the Bruce and in return he gave them a piece of the Stone of Scone which became the Blarney Stone
1446 AD - Current Blarney Castle built after the previous structure was distroyed
1602 AD - Cormac Tiege MacCarthy, Lord of Blarney pressured to swear alligance to Queen Elizabeth I, but avoided it with "Fair words and soft speech" and thus the word "Blarney" entered the English language.
1646 AD - Castle besiged by Lord Broghill; acting on the orders of Oliver Cromwell (who had deposed King Charles I) Blarney Castle was taken, but all the inhabitants had fled, taking their wealth with them
1658 AD - Cromwell Dies; The population of Ireland (estimated at 1,500,000 before Cromwell) was reduced by two-thirds (to 500,000) at Cromwell's death in 1658.
1661 AD - MacCarthys regain the Castle; When King Charles II was restored to the throne, he restored the lands taken by Cromwell to the Irish people as well
1690 AD - The Battle of the Boyne; the pro-Catholic forces of King James II are defeated by King William III and the Treaty of Limerick was signed. Following these events many Irish Catholic gentry flee to the continent (known as "Flight of the Wild Geese")
1690 AD - The MacCarthys leave Blarney Castle forever; Donagh MacCarthy was taken prisoner by the Duke of Marlborough (an ancestor of William Churchill) and escaped to France in the "Flight of the Wild Geese"
1703 AD - Sir James St. John Jefferyes buys Blarney Castle; first sold to the Hollow Sword Blade Company of London, then Sir Richard Payne (Lord Chief Justice of Ireland) who feared a MacCarthy return and sold it within a year to Jefferyes, who was the Governor of Cork City
1825 AD - Sir Walter Scott visits Blarney Castle and kisses the Stone
1874 AD - Blarney House built
1912 AD - Winston Churchill visits and kisses the Stone
1950 AD - Stone of Scone stolen from Westmister Abbey
