Victory in Europe day, or "V-E Day" marked the allied win and the end of the war in Europe. This was good news for Americans after the loss of President Roosevelt recently before. Both Hitler and Benito Mussolini were dead, as Hitler had committed suicide in his underground bunker after marrying his mistress, Eva Braun. This was a turning point in the war because it marked a new optimism among people of the world, knowing that the awful war was over.
