This battle was a turning point in the war. At this time Hitler moved his troops towards southern Russia, hoping he would capture the city of Stalingrad. Due to a harsh Russian winter and the strong soviet army, the Germans were forced to surrender after 199 days of fighting. This was important because it was the first big loss for the Germany army.
