It is advised that I should get my first mammography 10 years younger than the age that a relative was diagnosed with breast cancer. My grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 55, so the best option is to complete a mammography when I am 45. That said, a mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast. I will have to stand in front of an x-ray machine. The person who takes the x-rays will place my breast between two plastic plates. The plates press your breast and make it flat in order to get a clear picture. The image will display any abnormalities indicating breast cancer. Therefore, it is advised a mammography is done annually.
