Hugh of Vermandois - King Philip I of France's brother. Philip had been excommunicated so Hugh went on his behalf. Also due to celestial phenomena.
Godfrey of Bouillon - vassal of Henry IV and one-time opponent of the Pope. Was already wealthy and had considerable military experience along with his brothers. Sold much of their land to go so mainly spiritual reasons.
Bohemond of Taranto - eldest son of Robert Guiscard (Norman) did not inheret the lands he thought he should've. Militarily talented and emerged as one of the greatest crusaders of the first crusade. Left immediately with Tancred of Lecce for Constantinople, raiding on the way. He expected to gain financially.
Robert Duke of Normandy, Stephen Count of Blois and Robert II Count of Flanders - they had little money and mortgaged his duchy for 10000 marks to finance. Spiritual gain.
Spiritual reward: remission of sins and a guaranteed place in heaven.
