Papa Jo contributed to the modern swing styles associated with the drums at that time. Jones played with the Blue Devils and the Bennie Moten Orchestra. Every single person who has known Jones says that he has been the best to ever sit down at a kit. During the 1930's, Jones moved to Kansas City, where he helped bring the jazz bug there as well.
