The Napoleonic Code was the French civil code established under Napoleon in 1804. The Napoleonic code was a new legal framework from France that gave post-revolutionary France its first laws concerning property, colonial affairs, and family and individual rights. The code organized laws including commercial and criminal law and divided civil law into categories of property and family. The Napoleonic code gave men more power over there families, stripped women of any individual rights and reduced the rights of illegitimate children. All male citizens were also granted equal rights under the law and the right to religious differences and colonial slavery was reintroduced. These laws were applied to all territories under Napoleons control and where important in other European and South American countries.
The Napoleonic Code affected French Nationalism positively as it allowed the people to gain more freedom, right and independence.
