The Battle of Bull Run was the first Civil War battle that resulted in massive casualties. With over 4,000 casualties in a day alone, The Union and Confederacy both saw how brutal and difficult the war would be- they saw this was a new kind of war, marked with better weapons, technology and strategies. By late afternoon, the Union forces retreated and the Confederacy declared victory over one of the first Civil War battles.
