After preparing for an attack that would open up a second front to combat Germany’s military, the United States launches an invasion on the beaches of Normandy in France. By the end of the day, the Allies control the beaches of France and begin to take on the Axis in Europe.
This event was a major turning point in the war, thanks to the American troops. Since the battle was such a surprise to the Germans, after suffering heavy losses the Allies were able to traverse French land once again and liberate the capitol. Russia was also relieved from its constant bombardment from the Axis, who now had to concentrate on both sides of the war. Claiming France also rallied the troops and raised morale considerably.
