Descrição:

August 10, 1861: On August 10, 1861, both the Union and the Confederacy were planning an attack on the other. The next day, Brig. General Nathaniel Lyon, Union army leader, attacked the Confederates. The Confederates rushed to the attacked spot and held their ground. The Confederates attempted to get the Union to surrender by counterattacking them but the Union did not move. After the third counterattack, the Union started to pull back. The battle was important in the Civil War because it gave the Confederates control of southwestern Missouri.
