27 fev 1860 ano - Cooper Union Address
Descrição:
February 27, 1860: Abraham Lincoln was invited to be a speaker at the Young Men’s Republican Club of New York. In his speech he quashed many of Stephen A. Douglas' claims regarding slavery. Lincoln also spoke about how the Union falling apart could lead to many threats. A New York writer said, "No man ever before made such an impression on his first appeal to a New York audience." Lincoln's speech gave him important political supporters which helped him later on during the election. Because Lincoln "attacked" slavery by quashing Douglas' claims, the Southerners did not like him very much.
