One June 18, 1934 President Franklin D. Roosevelt the Indian Recognition Act was signed and aimed to decrease the involvement of the Native American Affairs and make them more of a self governing nation. This was a positive change in the way the U.S. government dealt with Native Americans. Because of this act more than 160 tribes adopted their own constitutions under the acts provision.This act greatly improved staff and services inside the reservations. By 1950 at least ½ of all Native American children attended school. Also, this act led to the regaining of millions of acres of land because of the leadership being taken to improve their situation.
