1 jan 1534 ano - The Act of Supremacy, Henry VIII
Descrição:
In 1534 Parliament signed the Act of Supremacy that recognized King Henry VIII as the “Supreme Head of the Church of England”. This was an extreme reform for England because this was when the broke from the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Church to practice in their own faith. The main reason for this was to legitimize the king's marriage to Anne Boleyn and the divorce of Katherine of Aragon. English subjects were even required to take an oath recognizing the marriage. This set the stage for a large change in English society from its separation of church and there is a continuous struggle for many decades of loyalty to the Catholic Church and the Church of England.
