The Astrolabe is any type of early scientific instrument used for reckoning time and observational purposes. There are several different types of astrolabes, with the most common and widely employed being the planispheric astrolabe which was used to calculate the position of the Sun and prominent stars in regard to the horizon and meridian. It provided the plane image of the celestial sphere and the principal circles. Specifically those that represent the ecliptic, celestial equator, and tropics of both Capricorn and Cancer. Because of these features, it can be regarded as a rudimentary analog computer. They were also used by sailors and in celestial navigation. The typical astrolabe htat was implemented by people was 4 to 18 inches in diameter, and was used for surveying purposes such as determining the height of a mountain, and had more htan one plate/climate that were engraved with coordniate lines for latitude, longitude, meterm and rete.
