In 1957, a German company called EMT (Elektromesstecknik) released the EMT 140 Reverberation Unit which was the first ever plate reverb. Plate reverb is made up of a large, thin sheet of metal that is suspended for a steel frame by spring tensioners at each corner, it has an electrical transducer in the center of the plate and it induces the plate’s movement, which creates the reverb effect.
