Thatcherism is very similar to Reaganomics in its neo-conservative principle. Also similar to Reagan, Thatcher government came to power after a long period Keynesian economics and implemented many conservative policies including reduced taxes, spending and a reduction to the power of unions. One of the largest battles Thatcher faced was with the coal mining unions. The unions provided many jobs but were very costly to maintain forcing the government to subsidize the coal mining industry. Thatcher wished to put an end to the subsidization of coal miners, which is in line with her monetarist policy by minimizing inflation over minimizing unemployment. In line with Reagan and the entire neo-conservative movement, Thatcherism marked a shift to the right. Neo-conservatism and monetarist policy are the building blocks of Thatcherism and they are also right-wing economic principles.
