5 dez 1968 ano - Brown Black Student Walkout

Descrição:

On December 5, 1968, 65 out of 85 black students walked out of Brown University and Pembroke College to protest their administration's willingness to consider their reforms for black life on campus. The women of Pembroke college met with the administration for months and were denied every time. The attitude at Brown was that the black students should not have been complaining, given the great opportunity that attending the school was. So in protest, the men and women of the two campuses walked out of class and down to Cogdon Street Baptist Church, where they stayed there for three days. In the demands they released, they called for a larger population to be admitted to Brown University, for Black Studies courses to be established, to establish programs that recruit black students, and to have programs that help black students transition into college life at a predominantly white higher-ed institution.

Many of the demands have yet to be met, fifty years later.
