29 dez 1990 ano - The Americans with Disabilities Act is passed.
Descrição:
As a result of the initiation of IDEA and many campaign efforts, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed. ADA ensured equal access and equal treatment for individuals with disabilities regarding employment opportunities and public accommodations (Esteves, 2012). ADA was intended to end discriminatory practices in employment, transportation, and instances of public accommodation. The Act required employers to make reasonable accommodations to the known disabilities of a qualified employee (Esteves, 2012). This Act marked the beginning of the extension of individuals with disabilities’ rights to beyond the classroom and into the rest of society. Individuals with disabilities now not only had the chance to succeed in school but also in finding employment post-education. The Americans with Disabilities Act opened up the opportunity for these individuals to live independent lives integrated with the rest of society.
