This was successful because of Japanese navy ambushing Russian Fleets and Destroyed in the Tsushima strait
Manchuria Was important because it was the closest Chinese land and it had the potential to supply Japan with resources.
Manchuria also provided living space for Japanese rapidly growing population
Effect
• Japan gained respect from the west and other Asia
• Affirmed that Japan must be the Asian leader
There were concerns expressed by the minority about short-sighted imperialistic nature and cost but overwhelmed by the majority supporting Japanese views
The cost was great and impact was great --> more need for presearation and protection of acquired territory
