The Stamp Act (mar 22, 1765 – mar 22, 1765)

Description:

The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765. This act taxed the colonists on all printed paper including playing cards, newspapers, licenses, etc. This was accomplished by requiring legal documents and printing paper tonbe embossed with a revenue stamp. The colonists believed that taxes (such as the Stamp Act) shouldn't be levied against them without being represented in the British Parliament. The colonists reacted to this act with boycotts of British goods and riots. Also they attacked tax collecters. The reason they taxed the colonists was so they could pay the debts they had from the French and Indian War. This act was repealed on March 18, 1766.
