The Great Sphinx (jan 1, 2575 BC – dec 31, 2465 BC)
Description:
One of Egypt's most famous landmarks, this colossal limestone statue based on a sphinx, is located in Giza, Egypt. Thought to be built durig the reign of King Khafre (2575-2465 B.C.), this giant sculpture has survived the test of time with various efforts to conserve it. Many think that its nose is missing from being shot at with a cannon ball by Napoleon Bonaparte's men, while many others believe that it was a Sufi Muslim that damaged it to protest idolatry.
