Richard Pynson, a Norman who operated a press in London from 1490 to about 1530. Pynson, who used the first roman type in England in 1518, issued more than 400 works during his approximately 40 years of printing. Of these, a substantial number are legal handbooks and law codes, on the printing of which he enjoyed an effective monopoly
