Congressional Reconstruction (jan 1, 1867 – dec 31, 1871)

Description:

During this reconstruction, congress refused to seat any senate or representative elected by states who had not ratified the 14th Amendment. Congress also tried impeaching Johnson due to his violation of the Tenure of Office Act. While he survived by one vote, his chances of ever being reelected were shattered.
