Alfred Russell Wallace(1823-1913): Wallace played a pivotal role in developing the theory of natural selection, the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. He collected more than 100,000 insect, bird and animal specimens and concluded from his research that living things evolve by adapting to their environment.
