Charles Lyell (jan 1, 1797 – jan 1, 1875)
Description:
Charles Lyell(1797 -1875): Lyell developed the theory of uniformitarianism, which says that changes in the earth's crust during geological history have resulted from the action of continuous and uniform processes. He also believed that along with Earth, animals too change with time. He used the fossil record as evidence for this, claiming that fossils were former plants and animals. Lyell helped arrange for the co-publication of the theory of natural selection by Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858, a theory that each had arrived at the theory independently.
