Hernan Cortez' mission for conquest in Tenochtitlan (jan 1, 1519 – aug 13, 1521)

Description:

1519 - Hernan Cortez arrives in Tenochtitlan for a conquest mission. Historians remark this as the end for both the religions of the Maya and the Aztecs. Hernan Cortez would take the capital of the Aztec Empire in 1521. Conquest missions across Mexico took place in the territories of both the Mayans and the Aztecs and Cortez was among many of the Conquistadors who remarked the religious practices as being barbaric and heresy. Many texts of both the Mayans and the Aztecs were burned because of this and much of what was known about the societies and their religions were lost. Books were not the only thing burned, as people were burned at the stake for heresy. This in many ways marks the beginning of the Spanish Inquisition although the Inquisition would not find itself dominant over Mexico for another 52 years.
