First Continental Congress (sep 5, 1774 – oct 26, 1774)

Description:

The colonies, except Georgia, sent their elected delegates to meet at the First Continental Congress. These leaders from the stretch of the East Coast had different goals in mind. Some colonies wanted to stay with the mother country and others were 'radical' in considering breaking away from Great Britain. Virginia's delegates were the most popular of them including George Washington, Richard Lee, Patrick Henry, Edmund Pendleton, Benjamin Harrison, Richard Bland, and Peyton Randolph. Randolph was soon elected president of the committee. This meeting marked the first step towards independence for the colonists.
