The Thibodaux Massacre (nov 23, 1887 – nov 23, 1887)

Description:

African American sugar cane workers organized together and demanded to be paid $1.25 a day instead of $.42. Once their demand was reject 10,000 workers went on strike, The morning of November 23, 1887 two white guards were shot. This caused retaliation and the white militia was called into action. Whites and the white militia then went door to door and shot any person they believed to be involved in the strike. 60 people were killed and tosses in unmarked graves.
