Description:
This was a set of five laws passed in September of 1850 that dealt with slavery. California wanted to join the U.S. as a Union State, but the government didn’t want to upset the balance of free and slave states, so they got rid of the Fugitive Slave act, and abolished the slave trade in Washington D.C.
