Aroostook war (jan 1, 1838 – jan 1, 1839)
Description:
Was a war between the United States and the British over the boundary of U.S. State Maine and New Brunswick. People from New England and Canada were coming into the land and making arrests to each other. In March of 1839 British troops came to Aroostook Maine from Quebec so the Maine legislature responded by sending 10,000 men. President Martin Van Buren wanted to keep peace so the Congress voted for 50,000 men and General Winfield Scott to Augusta, Maine to maintain peace.
