1st Continental Congress (sep 5, 1774 – oct 26, 1774)
Description:
The 1st Continental Congress convened in response to the implementation of the Intolerable Acts by Great Britain after the Boston Tea Party the previous year. Twelve out of the thirteen colonies attended, and a compromise was reached. Instead of demanding and declaring independence, the 1st Continental Congress passed the Declaration and Resolves, declaring a boycott on British goods. The Petition to the King was sent out a few days later, calling for amends and the repeal of the Intolerable Acts. Though the Petition was ignored, the combined boycott by 12 of the colonies built the basis for future cooperation against the common enemy, Great Britain.
