Conflict of Colonies (jan 1, 1763 – jan 1, 1775)
Description:
After the French and Indian War concluded, Great Britain began exerting more control over its colonies in North America largely due to the massive debt it accumulated during the war, bringing an end to salutary neglect. The British government began enforcing taxes (Stamp Act, Sugar Act), restricting the colonial trade with other countries, and leaving a standing army in the colonies. These acts passed by the Parliament caused much uproar in the colonies, which responded each time with increasing aggression through activities such as protests and boycotts. Eventually, the colonies were tired of the abuse of power by Great Britain, especially in the issue of taxation without representation, and demanded independence.
