49 Degree Line (oct 20, 1818 – oct 20, 1818)
Description:
The United States and Britain signed the Treaty of Oregon which established the 49th parallel as the core international boundary in the Pacific Northwest. This would give the U.S. a large area of a northern border. However, the U.S. was unwilling to go to war over this because it faces a war with Mexico on the southern border. Instead, the U.S. and Britain came to a conclusion to extend the 49th parallel border. This gives Britain all of Vancouver Island.
