Mississippi Freedom Summer (jun 1, 1964 – aug 31, 1964)

Description:

The purpose of this event was to register as many black voters as possible in Mississippi. It was led by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Congress for Racial Equality (CORE). These two groups trained white and black students to use nonviolent tactics for protesting. The KKK and other racist groups targeted the students.
